Leon Sinks
After a lovely holiday, a wonderful trip to Costa Rica (photos processing!), and getting settled into the new semester, I am starting back into the routine of sinkholes and springs.
At the edge of the Apalachicola National Forest, you can find Leon Sinks, a series of wet and dry sinkholes with about a 5-mile trail. Last week, Sierra and I hiked a portion of it and it was great to get out of the city. Hammock sink was beautiful and the weather was perfect.
Fun fact, the blue/green color of the water comes from tannins (pigments or dyes) in decaying plants or from minerals in the rocks and soil deep underground.
I still stand by my opinion... Florida's not so bad.
